When Nasser Hussain called Shane Warne ‘fat p****’: Aussie star reveals hilarious incident

Former Australia cricketer Shane Warne has been extremely active in these days of lockdown, keeping fans entertained with live videos across platforms. Warne’s list of best teams, country wise, that he has played against has generated a lot of traction and so has his comments on and about cricket and cricketers in these difficult times.

Warne was part of a vodcast on Sky Sports in the UK along with former England captain Nasser Hussain and the duo indulged in some light hearted banter according to a Fox Sports report. At some point in the conversation host Ian Ward brought up Hussain dismissal by Warne in a Carlton and United Tri-series match and the sledging that took place. While Hussain didn’t revel much Warne went ahead and told a hilarious story about he managed to get under Hussain’s skin and eventually dismissed him.
Some of this story is true and some of it isn’t,” Hussain said, only for Warne to interject and tell the whole story.

“Nasser, this is word-for-word true and you know it,” he began. “Steve Waugh was injured and I was vice-captain, Nasser was captain for England.

“We were playing a one-dayer in Sydney and England were cruising. It got basically 10 overs to go and England needed around 50 or 60 to win seven wickets in hand.

“So I’d saved myself and [Glenn] McGrath for a couple of overs in case we could get a wicket and then get us both on to see if we could get two or three wickets in a row to get us back in the game.

“But it wasn’t happening.

“I thought the only way we are going to win this game is if we take a wicket. So I’m going to bring myself and McGrath back and I’m going to start sledging Nass to see if I can upset him and then I’ll come on the other end straight away.

“I started getting into him saying ‘I know you’re going to stuff this up. I know you’re going to get out. Don’t let your team down this time’.

“So I come on to bowl, bowl the first couple and suddenly you see Nass just run down and he wanted to hit me for 12 – not six – he wanted 12.

“But he missed and got out. Stumped.

“But when I started having a go at Nass he turned to me and said: ‘Listen you fat p****, you’re not going to captain ever again so make the most of this one!”

This was the first final of the tri-series and England lost the match eventually by 10 runs despite being in a good position. Chasing a target of just 233 runs to win, England’s lower order collapsed and conceded the game. Warne picked up two wickets in the match and Hussain scored 58 runs.

Cricketer Suresh Raina became father for the second time recently

Suresh Raina has welcomed a new member in his family. The cricketer has become a father for the second time, as his wife Priyanka gave birth to their son Rio, on March 23, but says that given the current crisis, “this isn’t the time to celebrate”.

The 33-year-old says, “We (his family) were worried with everything that has been happening around, more so as the due date was getting closer. Though my wife Priyanka and I’ve been extra cautious but things were getting worse every day. I must say that doctors in Delhi are doing an amazing job. They’ve been caring and patient towards all our queries. People are in a state of panic yet the way they’re keeping their cool, it’s commendable!”

Raina’s three-year-old daughter Grace was born in Holland, and his wife mostly lives there for she works in a bank. This time too, Priyanka was supposed to deliver her baby in Holland, but plans changed after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Those who’re expecting a child and are worried how they’ll manage, let me tell you, please stay calm and cooperate. The authorities are doing a good job here,” he says, adding that to help more people, his wife might share her experience and possibly also some tips regarding how to take care during this time.

Raina, additionally, urges husbands to take extra care of their wives and shares some post-natal tips. “My wife needs to eat food, medicines etc on time. Given her condition, she needed back, legs and feet massages, but we can’t call for a masseuse now, so I’m doing all of that, besides taking care of Grace,” says the hands-on father and all-rounder of the Indian cricket team.

The family man is ensuring that only healthy food is being consumed in his house. “Right now I’m only thinking about the safety of everyone around me. We had been running faster, and our patience level had gone down. So let’s take this time to be compassionate, introspect and let’s all come out stronger,” says the cricketer who is also doing his bit for those in need, by helping the security guards, his househelps and their families with food, masks and sanitisers.

Raina is even making sure that the stray dogs in his society don’t go hungry during lockdown. “We can afford to survive, but what happens to these daily wagers or animals? We all have to come forward and help them. I don’t think talking about this or putting it [on social media] is required. Such things are the need of the hour, and we all must do them,” he says, calling the present situation a “challenging time for humankind”.

The iconic Sachin Tendulkar on Friday said managing the period after April 14 would be crucial to how India fares in its battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, a belief which was shared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a video conference with sportspersons.

Tendulkar was among the 40-odd elite sportspersons with whom the PM had a one hour video call to discuss the prevailing situation which has claimed more than 50 lives in India with 2000 plus positive cases. The country is currently in a 21-day lockdown which ends on April 14.

“He (PM Modi) highlighted and reaffirmed my belief that we should not let our guard down after the 14th of April, & how we manage that period will be very critical,” Tendulkar said in a statement after the interaction.Like everyone else, Tendulkar is also practising social distancing and said he now folds his hands to say ‘Namaste’ instead of shaking hands.

“I also suggested that as much as possible, I will use our way of greeting – saying ‘Namaste’ instead of shaking hands, even after we overcome this pandemic,” he said.

PM Modi also spoke about this being the time when elderly people, who are more vulnerable, should be taken care of.

“Taking care of our elders who are most vulnerable and using this time to hear from them, their stories and experiences was something the Prime Minister resonated with.”The mental aspect of a lockdown was also discussed.

“We also spoke about mental fitness being as important as physical fitness during this phase, and shared what I’m doing at home to keep fit.

“This is the time for our entire nation to come together and keep each other motivated. Like team spirit wins us games in sports, our nation should work as one team to overcome this,” Tendulkar concluded.

India captain Virat Kohli on Thursday said that playing all three formats of cricket for so many years is not easy. Speaking in a candid chat with former England captain Kevin Pietersen on Instagram Live, Kohli said that he keeps taking breaks in between to maintain his schedule. “I have been taking breaks, honestly. I felt like I was doing too much last 2-3 seasons. I take breaks every now and then, T20 matches, or ODI series here and there. I don’t wanna miss Test cricket, honestly,” he said.

He further added: “There were a few T20 cricket matches in between I felt which had no relevance. I have spoken about it at press conferences. I have said that you don’t wanna have matches in which you feel zero motivation or energy. I don’t like to play like that.”

Kohli further said: “I have been playing three formats for the past nine years, along with IPL… captaining RCB for six years. It’s not easy.”

Talking about his future, he added: “I have set 2-3 years till next World Cup for myself, I am going to give it all. After that, I will figure out where I stand, which format, all those questions come later.”

Kohli has been Pietersen’s biggest guest so far after the former England cricketer decided to interview cricketers around the globe amid lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic. Previously South Africa’s Dale Steyn, Pakistan’s Amed Shahzad and India limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma were invited KP’s Instagram live.

We were playing a one-dayer in Sydney and England were cruising.

Stumped.“But when I started having a go at Nass he turned to me and said: ‘Listen you fat p****, you’re not going to captain ever again so make the most of this one!”

This was the first final of the tri-series and England lost the match eventually by 10 runs despite being in a good position. Chasing a target of just 233 runs to win, England’s lower order collapsed and conceded the game. Warne picked up two wickets in the match and Hussain scored 58 runs.tr
